Fail. (a poem)

Chris Gonzalez, September 21, 2009

I wrote a short poem last week as I was studying Luke 22 for yesterday's message.  For me, it captured the idea that in the midst of his greatest struggle, and everyone around him failing, Jesus stayed true.  Thought I would throw it up here...

Fail. (Luke 22)

Betrayed by the kiss of a friend
Denied by lips of another
Mocked by whips of the powers that be
Scorned by tongues:
Yesterday "Hosannah!"
Today "Crucify!"

And Lord I see
They are we
These who failed
Are just like me

And so I run
To the only one
Who says, "Not my will
But yours be done

Only as I gaze upon You
See my sin forgiven
See the hope now given
Can I say, "Not my will
But yours be done."

And so I run
To the only one
Who says, "Not my will
But yours be done."

You said,  "Not my will
But yours be done
